My Quiet Space: Prom time!

Prom time!

Yesterday Hannah and I went shopping with my mom. We started out at a nice little shop in Collin Creek Mall. Hannah was less than enthused about all the embellishments on all the dresses.
When Hannah was little, I dressed her in dresses all the time. As she grew, she liked dresses less and less. She became a "tom boy" by 6th grade.

Hannah spotted a dress that wasn't overly embellished. It was a dark forest green. We chased down the cute little asian lady that was tending the store. I said "She'd like to try this on, but we aren't sure on her size." The little lady circled behind Hannah, placed her hands on her ribcage, waist, then hips. She announced rather loudly, "ohhhh you a laahhhhge". Hannah looked at me with disgust in her eyes. The little lady walked over to the area where more sizes of the dress hung and announced even louder "ohhhhh.. we no have a laaahge, you try extra laaaahge?"
Hannah turned to me and said flatly, "I want to go somewhere else, right now."

We tried Dillard's, Foley's, and Macy's. No luck. We went into Claire's because my mom needed to pick up something for one of my nieces. We saw a girl working there that was about the age of 20. My mom asked her where in the world to find a good selection of prom dresses. She mentioned Whatchamacallit Fashions on Preston, in Dallas. We got there and it was like a dance club with dresses of every color and style imaginable hanging on the walls. There are some dresses out there that I really have to wonder wht the designers were thinking. Hideous. Seriously. At first Hannah was trying to stick to just trying on dresses of orange, pink, or green. She wanted something that would be very girly since she is usually anything but girly.
Here is the first dress she tried on. She was less than impressed that I had a camera whipped out.

Here's a mossy green one that I found that was going to need some serious repairs before leaving the store. There were a lot of sequins missing.

I had to beg her to try on a lavender dress. I've always thought lavender looked amazing with her blue eyes. I almost sobbed when she opened the door. She didn't like the way it fit her chest.

Another two shots of the barbie pink dress that became a contender in the battle of dresses.

Shopping for dyeable shoes.( I thought the converse off to the side was ironic.)

Here's the winner. It's champagne. Not gold. I think it'll look great with her hair that she just dyed a very dark brown.
